The murder of Samuel Luiz, beaten to death last weekend, shakes Spain. Important demonstrations took place on Monday in the country to denounce a “crime homophobe”.

24-year-old nurse’s aide, the young man was found unconscious on the outskirts of a nightclub in La Coruña, in northwestern Spain, after being beaten up. The emergency services failed to revive him and he died on Saturday morning, say the Spanish media.

According to The country, the facts took place during the night from Saturday to last Sunday, around 3 am. In front of the nightclub, the young man, accompanied by his friends, made a videoconference call. A group of men, believing that he was taking pictures of women without their knowledge, then attacked him. “At least seven people reportedly started hitting and kicking Samuel Luiz, without him being able to defend himself”, reports the media.

Several thousand demonstrators

“Justice for Samuel. Homophobia and fascism are the same thing”, proclaimed a gigantic banner held by demonstrators who left the famous Puerta del Sol square in Madrid on Monday evening, AFPTV noted.

A crowd of several thousand protesters, some of whom waved the Pride flag, had responded to the call of many LGBT + groups demanding “Justice for Samuel”, as the participants shouted. “These are not blows, these are assassinations”, chanted the crowd. “Stop homophobie”, “All I want is to live” or “They are killing us “, could we read on some signs.

Since his death, his relatives have denounced a homophobic crime, just a few days after the end of Pride week in Spain, a major place of LGTB + festivities. Demonstrations took place Monday evening in other Spanish cities, such as in La Coruña, often bringing together several hundred people, according to photos and videos posted on social networks.
