His name is Chase and is only 7 years old, but the story of this little American hero is already going around the world. The young boy was due to enjoy a family outing last Friday with his 4-year-old little sister and dad on the St Johns River in Jacksonville, Fla., But all did not go as planned.
Chase’s dad had taken out his boat, and the two children were swimming around the device, when little sister, Abigail, was swept away by the current, CNN reports. “She was standing at the boat, but the current was too strong and she had to let go,” Chase, who wanted to join her sister, could not. It was then the father of the two children who jumped into the water, in an attempt to save the little girl equipped with a life jacket who was moving away. He told Chase to swim to shore for help, which the little boy did. For an hour, he swam alone and without a life jacket in the waters of the river before reaching the shore and finding people able to help him.
“Yes, I was tired,” said the little boy, “that’s why I let myself float on my back.” With his courage and composure, Chase saved his father and sister. They were both picked up by police nearly two kilometers from where their boat was.
