After months of rumors, Amazon Game Studios confirms the acquisition of the exploitation rights of Lost Ark and announces its western release by this fall.
In 2019, the South Korean studio SmileGate officially launched Lost Ark in South Korea – after long months of testing. Since then, the MMORPG has been distributed in several countries in Asia, then in Russia, but was long overdue in the West.
Throughout the last year, SmileGate promised “good news” to Western players waiting for the MMORPG and at the same time Amazon Game Studios confirmed in August of last year to have acquired the rights to exploit a title of SmileGate, but without specifying explicitly which one – one smelled nevertheless that it was about Lost Ark, in spite of the silence of the American giant.
Tonight as part of the Summer Game Fest organized by Geoff Keighley on the sidelines of theE3 2021, Amazon not only confirms the acquisition of Lost Ark, but also that the western version of the MMORPG of Smile Gate will be launched in the West this fall.
The studio is expected to communicate details soon, but until then, the choice may be surprising given that the same Amazon Game Studios promises the launch of its own MMORPG, New World, this summer. While the gameplay of the two games is very different, fans of massively multiplayer titles will have to make choices.
