The MacBook Pro could be equipped with a mini LED panel very soon. A very welcome development, in the tradition of the iPhone and iPad Pro.
The MacBook Pro is a very versatile machine. Year after year, Apple has been able to provide it with precisely what was needed in terms of hardware to form a robust and efficient product. Some might argue that it is fishing today with its screen, which is still an LCD panel. That could change very soon.
A MacBook Pro with a mini LED screen for the second half of the year?
Apple’s MacBooks still use LCD screens, unlike iPhones which have switched to OLED and iPad Pros which have already adopted the mini LED. That being said, the situation could change in a few months. According to a report from DigiTimes, Apple is preparing to launch a MacBook Pro with a mini LED display before the end of the year.
That’s what DigiTimes thinks it knows
This information contradicts a previous report which suggested that, due to production issues, MacBooks with LED displays would be postponed until 2022. However, the DigiTimes article claims that the Cupertino company has found a new supplier, Osram Opto Semiconductors, to supply some of the components needed for this new model.
What’s interesting is that recent rumors claimed that Apple may announce its new MacBook Pros during WWDC 2021 next week. Apple is not usually used to announcing new devices during its high mass dedicated to developers. Perhaps the Cupertino company will change its habits this year, especially since the event is this year completely virtual, with a recorded conference.
It is also quite possible that Apple will formalize its machines next week but that the first deliveries do not arrive until the second half of 2021. The future will tell us what it is. Still, if you’re planning on buying yourself a MacBook Pro, you might want to wait a few more months, if you can.
