If you associate Alienware with big machines gaming thick and towering, your outlook may soon change. Dell has indeed announced the imminent arrival of the X series within its range, or new PCs of barely 15.9 mm for the thinnest models.

The x15 and x17 – 15 and 17 inch computers respectively – have a chassis combining magnesium and aluminum decorated with fully customizable RGB lighting on the back. Despite their thinness, these PCs carry high TGP Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 graphics cards since they reach a maximum of 110 W on the x15 and 165 W on the x17 (depending on the GPU, obviously).

If the configurations remain similar on these two computers, let’s see the few differences between them.

Alienware x15

On the 15-inch one will find an Intel Core i7 11800H or a Core i9 11900H associated with 16 or 32 GB of RAM and up to 4 TB of SSD storage in Raid 0. On the screen side, three options are available: a Full HD 165 panel Hz, Full HD 360 Hz G-sync and QHD (2560 x 1440 px) 240 Hz G-sync. Enough to play serenely with very high refresh rates, ideal for competitive games.

On the rear edge, you will find a USB-A port, two USB-C ports (including a Thunderbolt 4), a microSD card reader, an HDMI 2.1 port and a mini-jack. Finally, connectivity is provided by wifi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and an RJ-45 / USB-C Ethernet adapter (supplied).

Regarding the processor, the base model is identical to the x15, but the Core i9 is here a more efficient 11900HK. The storage is unchanged on this 17-inch model, but the RAM can go up to 64 GB. We also find the same Full HD panels, but the QHD is here replaced by a 4K 120 Hz panel (without G-sync).

The more imposing chassis of this model allows it to carry more connections. There is therefore an additional USB-A port, a mini DisplayPort 1.4 and an RJ-45 Ethernet port. The x17 benefits from an interesting additional option since the keyboard can be equipped with Cherry MX Ultra Low Profile mechanical switches specially designed for Alienware.

On both computers, the cooling system has been redesigned to ensure good dissipation despite the thinness of the chassis. It is a new liquid metal based on gallium which was chosen by Dell to optimize the heat exchange between the CPU and the heatsink, to which is added a set of four fans which should provide an excellent flow of air to the components. .

Some configurations will be available in the United States starting today and the rest will follow on June 15, 2021. The x15 is announced at a base price of $ 2000 compared to $ 2100 for the x17. The French launch dates and prices are not yet known.
