What is the difference between the cheaper Surface Laptop Go and the more expensive Surface Laptop 4?
If you want to have the current Surface Laptop 4, you can now buy it for 749 euros. For this you get the version with 13.5-inch touchscreen and AMD Ryzen 5 4600U, eight gigabytes of RAM and a 128 gigabyte SSD. According to the manufacturer, the battery life should be 19 hours; depending on the application scenario, around eight to ten hours of battery life are realistic, and the battery life is even shorter with heavy graphics load. The Surface Laptop 4 is also available with Intel CPUs from the 10th generation, but the battery life of the AMD models is longer. The SSD can be exchanged, although Microsoft recommends that this should only be done by certified workshops. The main memory cannot be changed.
Also on offer is the Surface Laptop Go, which combines an aluminum housing with a plastic base plate instead of offering a complete aluminum housing and putting the red pencil on the built-in processor. Instead of relying on the more recent 11th generation of the mobile Core i chips, Microsoft is installing the now older Intel Core i5-1035G1. At 12.45 inches, the built-in display is smaller than the Surface Laptop 4 and comes from LG Philips and not from Sharp. The reflective IPS screen has a resolution of 1,536 x 1,024 pixels in 3: 2 format and has a brightness of 350 candela, while the reflective touchscreen in the Surface Laptop 4 has a brightness of over 400 candela and offers a higher resolution.
In terms of connections, the Laptop Go and the Surface Laptop 4 are set up identically and combine a USB-A socket with a USB-C port with Displayport function and a 3.5 mm jack plug. The notebooks can be supplied with power either through the proprietary Surface Connector or through the USB-C port. Regardless of whether it is a Surface Laptop Go or Surface Laptop 4, the RAM is always firmly soldered and cannot be exchanged. All Surface Laptops can be upgraded to Windows 11 for free.

In the meantime, there is also a distinction between the inexpensive Go version and an expensive Pro version with these Surface models. Amazon now has the inexpensive Microsoft Surface Go 2 on offer for 329 euros, which is the entry-level configuration with Intel Pentium.
The Surface Pro 7 Plus, which is also on sale, offers more performance. Here, an Intel Core i5 from the 11th generation is combined with eight gigabytes of non-expandable RAM and an SSD. With the Surface pro 7 Plus, the SSD can be exchanged via a maintenance hatch, although Microsoft recommends the exchange only to certified workshops. Amazon sells the Surface Pro 7 Plus including Windows 11 Home for just 799 euros instead of 1,099 euros.
