When players start the Halo Infinite campaign on December 8th, they will have to face the latest adventure with the Master Chief alone. Because, as has long been known, the co-op for the campaign will not be submitted until later. Probably not before May 2022.
In the latest issue of IGN Unfiltered, Creative Director Joseph Staten spoke about how difficult it was and why the co-op feature for the campaign was postponed.
Staten says, among other things, that it was a very difficult decision to postpone the co-op campaign. But it’s important to deliver quality work, especially when it comes to a franchise like Halo.
“I’m working on Halo, but I’m still a Halo fan. And the co-op campaign is an integral part of the experience. If you play Halo with your friends, you play Halo, whether in multiplayer or in the campaign. Of all the decisions we’ve made that have been the toughest, postponing co-op has been very, very hard. But it shows the studio’s dedication – even when difficult, even if it hurts – to only deliver experiences when they’re done. To deliver only quality experiences. And that’s so important for any franchise, but certainly for a franchise like Halo, which has been around for 20 years. “
Doing your work right and ideally surpassing it is therefore very important. In the case of co-op, you just weren’t there yet and you first devoted yourself to other areas of the game. For example, they wanted to make sure that the game ran well on all available platforms.
“If we don’t keep these standards high, if we don’t make a commitment to excellence and every time we bring something to market, we make a commitment to inspire our customers, meet and ideally exceed our expectations, then I don’t think so that we are doing our job right. And the simple truth was, the co-op just wasn’t ready yet. And we’ve decided to concentrate our efforts on other areas. “
