Epic Games, publisher of the famous battle royale “Fortnite”, announced this week the acquisition of the Harmonix Music Systems studio. Created in 1995, the latter is at the origin of the popular musical franchises “Guitar Hero”, “Dance Central”, “Rock Band” or even the more recent title “FUSER”.

The purpose of this union is to “create musical experiences and journeys in Fortnite,” said Epic Games in a statement. The company, which says it is working on building the metaverse, explains that Harmonix’s expertise will be invaluable “in reimagining the way music is experienced, created and distributed”. As a reminder, the battle royale game has already hosted concerts and virtual artist events, such as that of American DJ Marshmello in 2019 or that of rapper Travis Scott who brought together more than 12.3 million players in 2020. More Recently, the game collaborated this summer with American actress and singer Ariana Grande for a series of virtual concerts.

As for Harmonix, the studio wishes to reassure fans of its titles. On its blog, the company specifies that its games will continue to be available on the Steam distribution platform and on consoles. New content and events will be offered there.
