At the two competitors Steam and Epic Games Store, a discount battle has recently started with the autumn campaign and Cyber Week respectively. Valve attracts with discounts of up to 85 percent. Meanwhile, Epic Games is promising a discount of up to 75 percent and is foregoing the previously usual vouchers when purchasing additional games. Steam also does without the usual fuss apart from the reduced prices.
Many promotional prices for various titles are the same in both shops, which means that prospective buyers can sometimes choose their preferred platform without having a financial disadvantage. Steam top sellers such as Cyberpunk 2077 for 29.99 euros instead of 59.99 euros on Steam and Epic cost the same, as do Red Dead Redemption 2 for 29.99 euros instead of 59.99 euros (Steam | Epic) or the Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for 24.99 euros instead of 49.99 euros (Steam | Epic).
Shop exclusivity and publisher differences
However, as usual, some games are also shop-exclusive and not available on both platforms, such as Far Cry 6 for 49.79 instead of 59.99 euros at Epic, which is not available on Steam, but with the voucher code “BF20” directly at the publisher again for 20 percent cheaper (then 39.83 euros in the Ubisoft store), where the “Black Friday Sale” is currently running until December 2nd at 11 am with a discount of up to 75 percent.
Under the same name there is also a discount campaign of up to 88 percent at EA Origin until November 30th, where the prices are apparently no lower across the board than at Steam and Co. – in the exemplary case of the remaster of Need for Speed : Hot Pursuit is even 10 cents cheaper on Steam (9.89 euros vs. 9.99 euros).
In the meantime, the autumn promotion on Steam runs until December 1 at 7 p.m., while Cyber Week in the Epic Games Store runs until November 30 at 4 p.m. Another example of the different availability in the shops is the currently popular MMO New World, which is not available from Epic, but from Steam for 29.99 euros instead of 39.99 euros, while it is also available as a download from publisher Amazon itself Price is to be had. Accordingly, rummaging is sometimes the order of the day.
