DDR5 memory: Prices 50 to 60% higher than DDR4

Switching to DDR5 will have a cost, that’s for sure. Indeed, each time we change memory generation, the prices are increased for the new generation compared to the previous one and it will therefore be exactly the same between DDR4 and DDR5. Usually the increase is 30 40%, but it would seem that for the DDR5, it is much higher. Indeed, in addition to the fact that the technology is new, DDR5 requires more components on the bars and this generates an additional increase that would not be negligible ./>

As specified MSI, the increase could reach 50 to 60% compared to DDR4 …

“Historically, newer memory technology has always commanded close to a 30-40% premium over the previous generation. However, this time, DDR5 includes additional components that have driven the costs up further. As a result, we expect a 50-60% price premium compared to DDR4 at launch.”

Well, DDR5 motherboards might not be the most popular at first.
