The iPad version of Photoshop will host Camera Raw, a well-known module of the software allowing it to exploit uncompressed image formats.

The arrival of the full version of Photoshop on the iPad was like a bomb when it was launched. However, photographers had the unpleasant surprise to find that some external modules were not supported. Camera Raw is probably the most famous of these, widely used by professional photographers to edit uncompressed images.

Thus, upstream of Adobe MAX 2021 which will begin on October 26, the publisher announces that Camera Raw arrives on the Apple tablet. Adobe announces it in a video in which the firm unveils a “A glimpse of the power of Camera Raw”, while indicating that it will be “Soon available in Photoshop on iPad”.

In this video the senior product manager Photoshop on the iPad Adobe’s Ryan Dumlao reveals how Camera Raw works on the iPad version of Photoshop. It will therefore be possible to use most of the uncompressed formats compatible with the desktop version of the software.

Support for Raw in Photoshop on the iPad is great news, both for professional photographers and discerning hobbyists who use this format to get the most out of their shots. This makes all the more sense as the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro are capable of shooting in ProRaw, a sort of equivalent of the traditional DNG file incorporating additional information captured by the iPhone.

The latest version of Photoshop for iPad is available for all iPads running at least iPadOS 13.4. The app is free, but you will need to purchase an Adobe subscription to use it. Finally, for those who expect crispy novelties from the publisher, we invite you to from October 26 to 28 for Adobe Max, an event during which the company will present all its latest finds, and which will take place entirely online this year.
