For years, Google has been advertising a lot of its Play Protect security solution for Android. But in the tests, she is far from the weight compared to others. The AV-TEST laboratory has just carried out a comparative study of 15 Android security applications. Result: Google’s solution is far behind the others.

Thus, in the detection of malware, Play Protect only reached a rate of 68.8% against more than 99% for all other solutions. But that’s not all. Google’s solution is also characterized by an unusually high rate of false positives. Of 10,000 healthy applications, 70 have been quarantined. The other solutions have only made a handful of such mistakes at worst.
In the final ranking, Google Play Protect therefore only collects 6 points out of a total of 18. All the other solutions are above 16 points. Nine of them even collected the maximum possible points: Avast, AVG, Bitdefender, F-Secure, G DATA, Kaspersky, McAfee, NortonLifeLock and TrendMicro. The first two also have the advantage of being completely free.
Google’s poor performance is nothing new. Its software has been integrated into the AV-TEST comparisons since September 2017, and has always been in last position. If you have an Android smartphone, it is therefore advisable not to settle for this default solution, but to install one of the solutions awarded by AV-TEST.
