Sony’s State of Play, broadcast this Thursday, July 8, brought to the fore a brand new title called Arcadegeddon. Resolutely multiplayer, with a crazy spirit and already available in early access, the new title of IllFonic is revealed with an explosive first trailer.
Multiplayer, IllFonic has made it its specialty. The studio is best known for creating Friday the 13th: The Video Game, with an asymmetric concept which had frankly worked well: more recently, we owe him Predator: Hunting Grounds, a title that is also multi-faceted, interesting but more wobbly in many ways. The latter was notably developed in partnership with PlayStation: a partnership that is seen here being renewed for a brand new project called Arcadegeddon.
We leave there the dark atmospheres and the flows of hemoglobin for an otherwise more joyful tone, in an ultra-watered down artistic direction. Here is the official pitch:
Gilly is the owner of an arcade, which he tries to save from the clutches of an anonymous mega-corporation. It does this by combining all of the best arcade games out there to make one great game, but unfortunately the Fun Fun Co. mega-corporation hacks the game and injects a virus into it. You and your friends must save the game and the last arcade in town.
Arcadegeddon will therefore mix large phases of shoot, platform or even hand-to-hand combat in cooperative games, mixing PvP (players against players) and PvE (Players against the environment, therefore the AI). A huge, completely crazy tote that is offered here a first trailer, supported by music from bass music producer Getter.
note that the app is already accessible via early access on PlayStation 5, for the next seven months. Seasonal updates are planned, as well as many patches to correct and balance the experience. If you are interested and own the machine from Sony, all you have to do is check out the PlayStation Store to download this roach fresh Arcadegeddon.
