At least eight young people from West Flanders have tested positive for coronavirus after staying in Lloret de Mar on the Costa Brava in Spain, travel organizer Summer Bash said on Tuesday. All young people who are currently staying in Spain with the travel agency will be tested today.
The contaminations concern eight young people from the Waregem region who were staying in a holiday home in Lloret de Mar and who recently took the plane to return to Belgium. They had booked this trip with the Antwerp agency Summer Bash, which organizes festive holidays in particular in Spain, Portugal and Greece, but also outside Europe.
The organizer will test the holidaymakers
The travel organizer is now taking measures to assess the number of contaminations and, if necessary, cancel trips, explains brand manager Jordy S’Jongers. “Our team is tested every two days. This afternoon we will be carrying out rapid tests with all the young people who are currently staying in one of our three destinations in Spain. It is about 350 people.“
The total stoppage of stays and the cancellation of new trips will depend on the result of these tests. “We work with a roadmap“, explains Mr. S’Jongers.”It also depends a lot on the nature of the contamination. There is a difference between a house with ten positive cases and ten houses with one positive case each time.“
Already in September 2020, 77 young people from West Flanders had returned to Belgium after being infected during a stay in Portugal at the time. Over 40 of them had gone on a trip with Summer Bash.
