DEATH OF VLADIMIR MENCHOV
According to AFP, Vladimir Menshov died of Covid-19 on Monday. The Russian director, winner of the Oscar for best foreign film in 1981, was 81 years old. He was notably known for his feature film “Moscow does not believe in tears” or his comedy “Love and pigeons”,
“I have just heard of his death,” said director Vladimir Khotinenko, chairman of the feature films department of the Moscow State Film School (VGIK). “We knew he was suffering from Covid-19 but in a mild form, it is absolutely horrible and unexpected”. “His death tears away a huge piece of our common culture,” he added.
Through his spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Poutine expressed “his deepest condolences”.
