Alpine’s future will be electric. While waiting for the first concretizations, the range takes shape in filigree.
No doubt has been left concerning the fate of Alpine since the Renaulution: the sporting and historical branch will change era and become 100% electric. The firm is now launching new silhouette-shaped teasers looming on the horizon.
Unsurprisingly, the beginnings of this new strategy will revolve around three models with a coupe, a compact and an SUV with sporting ambitions. We will have to get used to it. All these models will be based on the new CMF-EV platform entirely dedicated to electric motors.
For now, the spotlight is on the next Alpine R5. The city car will take over the basis of the electric Renault 5, but will receive more sporty chassis settings and a suggestive aerodynamic endowment (an opening of the bonnet and a tailgate spoiler are to be expected).
But it will also be more powerful, as confirmed at the microphone of Autocar Gilles Le Borgne, technical director of Renault. The Alpine R5 could offer a power of 215 hp (160 kW), which is 80 hp more than the neo-retro city car at the Losange. Its arrival is scheduled for 2024.
