While arithmetic and politics sometimes give divergent results, firm and determined alliances often weigh heavily in the balance. After the first round of regional elections, several options could have been considered. The candidates still potentially in contention for the second round were keen not to let the suspense continue. In less than 24 hours, an agreement was found and signed by Huguette Bello, Ericka Bareigts and Patrick Lebreton.

The forces of progress are in the majority, it is natural that we come together

A union on the left signed in less than 24 hours, but above all “natural” according to Huguette Bello who declared that “forces of progress are in the majority”. The three political actors were keen to clearly display this position.

With 18.48% of the votes cast and 42,675 votes, Ericka Bareigts could have held on to the second round. This will not be the case. The head of the list of a “New Future of Reunion” had announced it on Sunday evening and she confirmed it this Monday, June 21 by signing the project carried by Huguette Bello.

Head of the list of “La Réunion des Territoires”, Patrick Lebreton obtained 17,972 votes, ie 7.78% of the votes cast. What allow him to merge with a candidate present in the second round. This is what he said on Sunday evening and that he also confirmed, this Monday afternoon, by also signing the project carried by Huguette Bello.

I’m a man of the left, I never changed my position

Arriving in second position on the evening of the first round with 47,880 votes and 20.74% of the votes cast, Huguette Bello has just achieved the alliance which changes the reading of the forces present between the two rounds. Remember that Didier Robert, who came first in the first round of the Regionals, obtained 71,800 votes, or 31.10% of the votes cast. With this alliance, on paper, the left would regain the advantage.

The only disappointment for Huguette Bello, the positioning of Vanessa Miranville who did not join her camp. “Political life is made of compromise, not of compromise. We must learn to work together to act” she confided. No broken dialogue, however, with Olivier Hoarau.

Frédéric Maillot keeps his place in 2nd position

The common project carried by the new platform of the left is based on the question of rebalancing the territory economically and environmentally. It will also discuss accessibility to housing and the opportunities offered to the most disadvantaged.

“More than a question of person, it is a project that the candidates will defend in front of the voters” said Huguette Bello, who confirmed that her allies will feature prominently on the new list, built on the basis of the results obtained proportionally by each candidate. Its composition has not yet been revealed but Huguette Bello says it is already finalized. It remains to collect the last signatures for its administrative compliance.

The only indiscretion revealed: Frédéric Maillot, in 2nd position on the initial list, keeps his place on the list for the 2nd round. Support is still awaited. However, they should no longer influence the order of the 47 final names, which will be filed this Tuesday in the prefecture.
