During the week of June 14 to 20, 33.6 patients with the coronavirus were admitted on average each day to the hospital, a decrease of 32% compared to the previous week, Sciensano said in its daily update on Monday. Currently, 459 people with Covid-19 are in hospital (-35%) including 204 in intensive care.

Between June 11 and 17, 499 people were infected on average each day, 44% less than the previous week. .

During the same period, 6.1 deaths from the virus were recorded each day according to Sciensano, a weekly decrease of 28%.

Nearly 38,700 tests on average were also performed daily, for a positivity rate of 1.7%.

The incidence, which indicates the average number of new daily cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 84.2 over 14 days. The virus’s reproduction rate has increased slightly and now stands at 0.78. However, when it is less than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to slow down.

Since the start of the pandemic, 1.1 million Belgians have been infected. 6.2 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine, or 67.9% of adults.
