Toglou high school (Diass) will open two new classrooms and a store in a few months. The work was officially launched on Thursday June 17 by a large delegation from Dangote Cement Senegal.
The initiative was warmly welcomed by the principal of the school, Mr. Mahmoud Salmane Sène who, despite the support of the State, did not fail to underline how the deficit of classrooms combined with the over-staffing, affects the implementation of timetables as well as the quality of learning-teaching. “It’s extremely difficult to juggle the schedule, we are forced to make reductions in schedules. So the two classrooms we are waiting for could relieve us.”
“The total enrollment of the school varies between 900 and 1000 students. Despite this, we have very good results in the exams, with more than 80% at the BFEM and 70% at the baccalaureate”, he remarked before magnifying the support of Dangote Cement Senegal which, according to him, fully plays its role through CSR.
Mouhamadou Diouf, representative of the mayor of Diass, welcomes the action of Dangote Cement Senegal while insisting on the strategy implemented to support the municipalities. “It brought us together in a committee where everyone has the latitude to express their needs and priorities. And this year, we have chosen support in the education sector. We can only thank them,” he said. he explains.
For Ousmane Mbaye, Administrative and Financial Director of the company, education and health are the two main points in its CSR program on which the company will spare no effort to help host communities. In terms of health, for example, we have built maternity hospitals in the municipality of Pout and in Fouloum in the municipality of Mont Rolland. A health center is under construction in Keur-Moussa “, he said.
Also according to Ousmane Mbaye, students will be able to learn in these new classrooms before the next school year if all goes well and if the entrepreneur meets the deadlines. The cost of the two projects (Toglou and Diass high schools) is estimated at CFAF 34 million.
