The most important is the one raging at Zec Varin north of Baie-Comeau. The fire is now contained and affects nearly 300 hectares.
The teams of the Society for the Protection of Forests Against Fire (SOPFEU) are deployed in the field.
“We are really working hard with our watering of tank planes and the installation of fire breaks on the ground”, explains Isabelle Gariépy, information officer at SOPFEU.
Interventions are dependent on weather conditions.
“In the afternoon, we fall into periods when it is hotter. We will see it with what will happen with the weather […] Our teams were hard at work very early this morning. We often start around 5 am to make sure we are there during the period when the fire is less intense, ”adds Ms. Gariépy.
Open fires in or near the forest remain prohibited in Eastern Quebec. The fire danger index should remain extreme over the next few days.
