Villeurbanne: an 11-year-old child dies after taking drugs

An 11-year-old child died on Saturday morning in Villeurbanne in the Rhône, after being the victim of an overdose, reports Le Progrès. The little boy had swallowed narcotics the day before in a squat located in the Feyssine district, which houses nationals from Eastern Europe, according to the regional daily.

The emergency services intervened on Friday around 10:30 am in the squat and transported the child in critical condition to the hospital. An investigation was entrusted to the police officers of the departmental security “of the counts of drug trafficking and administration of harmful substances having resulted in death without intention of giving it”, specified the prosecution of Lyon. The parents of the victim were placed in police custody, specifies the Actu.fr site

The child would a priori have swallowed hard drugs, present in the squat. The investigation will have to determine under what circumstances the boy was able to have access to these narcotics.
