An agreement in principle has just been reached between representatives of the 2,500 striking ArcelorMittal workers in Port-Cartier, Fermont and Fire Lake, as well as the managers of the mining company.
The information was confirmed by the coordinator of the Steelworkers Union for the North Shore, Nicolas Lapierre. The company did the same in a press release on Saturday afternoon.
In principle, workers are expected to vote on the deal on Tuesday [8 juin] or wednesday [9 juin], specifies Mr. Lapierre.
The union will not comment on any aspect of the agreement until the workers vote on it.
On May 10, employees overwhelmingly rejected the employer’s offer, more than 99%.
