Families in Quebec City who have not yet received the first dose can now benefit from a “driving inoculation” at Laval University, in the comfort of their car.

All the vaccination centers are currently operating at full capacity in the Capitale-Nationale. Over the weekend alone, at least 15,000 doses of the vaccine will be inoculated.

The addition of the drive-thru vaccination is therefore part of a desire to increase the region’s vaccination capacity, but also to accommodate small families.

“We wanted to be able to offer this choice to families for whom it is more complex to organize their schedule and for young people who want to be accompanied by their parents. It’s easier, ”says Patricia McKinnon, director of vaccination at the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale.

The decision was also welcomed by several families on the spot. “We don’t really like the great outdoors, so being able to come with my daughter in the comfort of my car is practical and reassuring,” says Nathalie Chenard, who was receiving her first dose of the vaccine.

All that rolls

The maximum of 520 meetings during the weekend has already been reached and only a few more places are available for next weekend. However, seeing the enthusiasm for this new service, additional appointments may be added.

“In total, it takes exactly 21 minutes to get vaccinated. Six minutes for the procedure and 15 minutes of waiting. There are no longer any excuses not to get vaccinated! », Supports Joëlle Boutin, Member of Parliament for Jean-Talon, present on site.

It should be noted that anything that rolls is accepted in this ephemeral clinic, whether it is a car, van, motorcycle or even bicycles. However, chairs will be accessible for the drivers of these last two means of transport, to avoid accidents in the event that they react badly to the vaccine.

How it works :

1) Registration on ClicSanté

2) Arrival at the PEPS underground parking lot at Laval University

3) mask change at a first station

4) Evaluation and taking of the vaccine at a second station

5) Waiting for about fifteen minutes in the car

6) Departure
