The Red Lions began the defense of their title with a victory against Spain at the Euro Hockey in Amsterdam (4-2). The Belgians, picked cold, rectified the situation thanks to Alexander Hendrickx, Tom Boon, author of a double, and Cedric Charlier.
The Red Lions were quickly surprised by a good Spanish action, nicely concluded by Jose Basterra (7th). This goal and the opportunity of Xavi Lleonart (8th) had the merit of waking up the men of Shane McLeod. A little more concentrated, they regained control of the match.
