volcanic activity in the South Pacific island nation of Tonga triggered a tsunami in the region, according to the US Tsunami Warning Center. Also for that US Territory American Samoa there is a risk of tidal waves and dangerous sea currents along the beaches and ports, the authority said on Saturday.

Low-lying coastal areas could be flooded, it said. Information about damage or victims was initially not available.

the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai have ash, steam and gas on Friday up to 20 kilometers in the air hurled, said the Geological Survey of Tonga (TGS). People have been urged to stay indoors and wear masks outside.

The volcano is always active since December. However, according to TGS, the latest eruption was seven times stronger than the last eruption. The agency also warned of possible acid rain in the region. The volcano is about 30 kilometers southeast of Tonga’s Fonuafo’ou Island (also known as Falcon Island).
