The rainy episode of the night, reinforced by the morning rains, is not without consequences. Soils that are already saturated with water no longer contain the flows that overflow and the streams overflow.
In the East, more than 250 mm of cumulative rain fell last night, in Sainte-Marie, Sainte-Suzanne, Saint-André and Bras-Panon. At Bellevue Bras-Panon, 211 mm were recorded in 3 hours, from 2 to 5 a.m.
The Saint-Jean River placed in orange raw vigilance
In Sainte-Suzanne, the Saint-Jean river has been placed on orange flood alert, a level not yet reached since the start of heavy rains a few days ago.
This level means that there is a risk of floods generating major overflows likely to have a significant impact on community life and the safety of property and people. The prefect of Reunion therefore alerted the emergency services and the municipalities concerned.
In Sainte-Suzanne, flooded roads and submerged aprons
Since daybreak, testimonies have multiplied on social networks to show the consequences of the rising waters. In Sainte-Suzanne, several roads are impassable because they are flooded or cut off by submerged riffles, which have become impassable.
