A hundred gendarmes were mobilized in Montpellier this Monday morning, as part of a legal operation for drug trafficking. The Orange branch of GIGN was there. At the end of the searches and arrests, ten people were taken into police custody.
This Monday, May 31, the gendarmerie carried out a large-scale operation in Montpellier (Hérault), in the Hospitals-Faculties district.
The GIGN and the PSIG Saber of the Castelnau-le-Lez gendarmerie company were present on site. This intervention was part of a legal operation carried out by the Montpellier research section for drug trafficking. According to witnesses on the spot, the operation would have started around 7 am this morning.
Arrests and searches were carried out. This Monday evening, ten people are in custody. Narcotics and weapons were reportedly seized, according to a source close to the investigation.
This intervention took place near the Philippidès roundabout, at the level of the Pierre Blanchet alley. Traffic was not blocked.
In all, around a hundred gendarmes were mobilized: the Orange branch of the GIGN (intervention group of the national gendarmerie), as well as the Surveillance and Intervention Platoon of the Gendarmerie (PSIG) of Hérault . Mobile gendarmes were also present as reinforcements.
