Two men were shot dead in the night from Monday to Tuesday in Avignon, on the edge of the Monclar and Champfleury districts, “obviously in a context of gang war linked to drug trafficking”, according to the prosecutor of the Republic of Avignon, Philippe Guémas.
The police were first called around midnight by residents who had heard gunshots at avenue Étienne Martelange. Once underway, the crew are warned thata young man of 20 is being transported to hospital. He died a few minutes later and had several wounds that could correspond to bullet holes.
Two victims known for drug trafficking
The police continue on their way. They arrive on site, avenue Martelange, and discover 9mm caliber cases, a warhead and debris from a scooter. Then, a little further, rue Paul Achard, they find the body ofanother man, 34 years old. The two victims were wearing scooter helmets, which suggests that they were traveling together, but the vehicle was not found. A police crew saw people evacuating a two-wheeler.
The two men were known to the police for drug cases, but the investigation will have to say with certainty whether it is a settling of scores related to drug trafficking. “The two deaths appear to be linked since they took place in the same neighborhood, but the reason for the shooting is unknown, which looks like a settling of accounts linked to drug trafficking.”, said the public prosecutor, Philippe Guémas. The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of Avignon.
