BerlinNext Sunday (December 12th) a 250 kilogram World War II bomb will be defused in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen. The dud was found on the grounds of the Jewish Hospital on Iranische Strasse. The hospital will be completely evacuated for defusing.

Residents in a circle of 500 meters around the place of discovery must leave their apartments and the restricted area by 6 a.m. on Sunday at the latest leaving. The district offices of Mitte and Reinickendorf, the police and the fire brigade point this out. Around 15,000 people are affected. Police officers will evacuate the area early in the morning before the bomb is due to be defused during the day.

The cordoned-off area is limited by the following streets:

  • North: Residenzstrasse / Reginhardstrasse
  • East: Osloer Strasse / Drontheimer Strasse
  • South: Reinickendorfer Straße / Nauener Platz
  • West: Seestraße / Groninger Straße

Residents will be informed about the upcoming evacuation measures with flyers in the coming days. Those who have the opportunity are asked to stay with friends or relatives on December 12th. For those who cannot, the Central District Office provides alternative accommodation. Citizens are asked to take important personal items, medication, diapers, etc. with them for at least twelve hours during the evacuation. It is not possible to bring pets into the accommodations.

The following collection points for people who need alternative accommodation have been set up

  • 1. Osloer Strasse 36-37, 13359 Berlin
  • 2. Reinickendorfer Str. 71-73, 13347 Berlin
  • 3. Seestrasse 80, 13347 Berlin
    Please arrive at the assembly points on December 12th, 2021 by 11.30 a.m. at the latest. Shuttle buses will then take you to the accommodations.

There will be separate accommodation options for people who have tested positive for the coronavirus or who are in quarantine. You should contact the hotline of the Central District Office (see below).

Bedridden people or people who know people in the restricted area who cannot help themselves alone, as well as social and care facilities, should report their need for support to the hotline of the district office in Mitte.
Citizens are asked to inform neighbors, especially if they are hearing or visually impaired or if there are language barriers. The district offices of Mitte and Reinickendorf as well as the Berlin police will keep you informed about the status of the measures on the day of the bomb disposal.

The district offices of Mitte and Reinickendorf have one Hotline set up for those affected. It is available from December 8th to 11th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on December 12 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. under the number: 030/ 9018 46 660 owho can be reached by email at [email protected]

It is recommended to park vehicles outside the affected area. During the closure measures, severe traffic restrictions are to be expected, particularly on the B96 (Reinickendorfer Straße) and Osloer Straße axes. We kindly ask you to drive around the area extensively on December 12th. Local public transport (subway, tram) will be discontinued during use in the area.
