Princess Charlène von Monaco – father breaks silence: “She is very vulnerable”

Princess Charlène returned to Monaco a month ago – and immediately went underground again. The 43-year-old is in a clinic. Her father has now commented on her state of health for the first time.

Charlène of Monaco was stuck in South Africa for months. Because of a severe ear, nose and throat infection, the former swimmer was not allowed to travel back to her home country. The princess only had contact with her family in Monaco over the phone.

Even her parents, who also live in South Africa and were not far from her, could not see her during this difficult time, as her father Michael Wittstock revealed in an interview with the South African news portal “You”. “At our age we have to be very careful,” said the 75-year-old. “I didn’t want to infect her either because she had so many medical interventions. She is very susceptible.”

“Exhaustion, both emotionally and physically”

It is the first time that Mike Wittstock speaks about his daughter’s health. The palace remains covered, only Prince Albert occasionally allows a glimpse. For example, he told People magazine that she was currently in a clinic outside of the principality because she was suffering from deep “exhaustion, both emotionally and physically”.

In an interview with “You”, Mike Wittstock explained that Charlène was still very tired. But the entrepreneur is optimistic. “My daughter swam 20 kilometers a day,” said the 75-year-old. “Given the way she trained, I know she’s tough and will come out a lot stronger.”

Even when he couldn’t visit his daughter in South Africa, they were in constant contact. “We talked on the phone regularly and I talk to the twins,” continues Mike Wittstock. “We have an excellent relationship.”
