According to several Slovenian media reports, Marko Grilc died in a serious fall on Tuesday. The accident is said to have occurred while filming on a closed slope in Sölden. The 38-year-old is said to have checked the site and, according to the Austrian police, was without a helmet. Grilc is said to have fallen with his head on a snow-covered rock and died on the spot, although his companions are said to have immediately started attempts at resuscitation.
Five years ago, Grilc suffered serious back injuries in a fall and had to be flown to the hospital in Schladming by helicopter.
Marko Grilc was a long-time World Cup driver and celebrated a victory. He also won a medal at the X Games, a win at Air & Style and was a four-time junior world champion.
According to media reports and Grlic’s Instagram account, the 38-year-old leaves behind a wife and two children. The Slovenian was also good friends with Anna Gasser and her partner Clemens Millauer.
