To save on trash taxes, it is better to live in Perles (BE) than in Buchillon (VD), reveals a survey by “À Bon Entendeur”. In the Bern municipality, the sum of the basic tax and the bag tax for a family of four, with an adult child and a minor, amounts to 237 francs per year – for a total of 104 bags of 35 liters . In the small town of Vaud, on the other hand, the bill is around 603 francs for the same household producing the same amount of waste.

According to the RTS program broadcast on Tuesday evening, the differences between the French-speaking municipalities can vary from simple to triple. And these disparities also exist between municipalities of the same canton or of comparable size. Thus, in the West of Lausanne, this same family of four pays 362 fr. annuals in Chavannes-près-Renens (approx. 7,800 inhabitants), 382 fr. in Crissier (approx. 9000 inhab.) and 457 fr. in Bussigny (approx. 10,000 inhab.). However, these three municipalities are adjacent.

Although the law requires that waste disposal be based on the polluter pays principle, some municipalities, such as Granges-Paccot (FR), choose not to impose a basic tax. Or not to apply the tax to the bag, although it is compulsory at the federal level.
