Corona – Styria significantly tightened corona rules

Styria is significantly tightening the rules for combating corona. In the future, as in Vienna, 2G will apply in night dining and events with more than 500 people. This means that participants must be vaccinated or have recovered. In addition, there is an FFP2 obligation in customer areas, at cultural events and at religious gatherings.

In the future, employees and visitors in hospitals, health resorts and nursing homes will be required to carry out a PCR test if they have not recovered or have not been vaccinated. The same applies to the staff in ordinations.

The new rules come into effect on November 8th.

4,261 new infections reported

More than 4,200 new corona infections were reported in Austria on Wednesday. The last time there were over 4,000 new cases around eleven months ago. In addition, 250 Covid-19 patients had to be treated in intensive care units again, six more than on the national holiday. This means that level 1 of the phased plan remains in place. A total of 1,257 infected people have to be treated in hospitals, 89 more than on Tuesday. Ten more deaths have also been recorded since the previous day.

The Ministry of the Interior and Health Ministry reported exactly 4,261 new infections within 24 hours. This is well above the average for the past seven days, with 3,584 new cases every day. More than 4,000 cases were last reported almost exactly eleven months ago. On November 29, 2020 there were 4,047 new infections across Austria.

Lowest rate of new infections in Burgenland

The seven-day incidence rose to 280.9 cases per 100,000 population on Wednesday, up from 247.9 on October 26. Now there were 35,070 confirmed active cases across Austria on Wednesday – that is more than Bregenz’s population. The federal state with the lowest vaccination rate – Upper Austria – recorded the most new infections. 1,068 new cases have been added here since Tuesday. Lower Austria reported 861 more infected people, Styria 548, Vienna 529 and Salzburg 392. In Tyrol there were 300 new infections, in Vorarlberg 264 and in Carinthia 251. The federal state with the most vaccinated residents – Burgenland – reported only 48 new cases since the previous day .

There are already 1,257 infected people in the hospital. Within a week there was an increase of more than 30 percent. 250 seriously ill patients are cared for in intensive care units – 32 more than a week ago. That means an increase of almost 15 percent. Exactly one year ago, on October 27, 2020, there were more infected people in hospitals, but fewer in intensive care units. Exactly 1,400 patients were treated in hospital twelve months ago, 203 of them in intensive care. The Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health reported 2,835 new infections across Austria on October 27, 2020.

Ten deaths have been registered since Tuesday, the seven-day average was 11.4 a day. There were 80 deaths in the past week. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 11,289 deaths in Austria since the outbreak. Per 100,000 inhabitants, 126.4 people have already died as a result of an infection.

Willingness to vaccinate continues to decline

Serious infection courses can be prevented by vaccination. But the willingness to vaccinate continues to decline. On the national holiday, 4,907 vaccinations were administered across Austria. According to the data in the e-vaccination pass, a total of 5,861,900 people have already received at least one partial vaccination: that is 65.6 percent of the population. Exactly 5,568,701 people and thus 62.3 percent of Austrians are already fully vaccinated.

Among the twelve to 24 year olds, 52.4 percent are fully vaccinated, in the age group 25 to 34 the rate is 60.9 percent and among the 35 to 44 year olds 66.3 percent. 70.4 percent of people between 45 and 54 years of age are completely protected against Covid-19, 78.9 percent in the 55 to 64 group. The 65 to 74 year olds have a vaccination rate of 84 percent, the 75 to 84 -Year-olds 88.9 percent and the group 85-plus 89 percent.

The highest rate of fully vaccinated people is in Burgenland at 69.7 percent. In Lower Austria 65.1 percent of the population are vaccinated, in Styria 63 percent. After Vienna (61.6), Vorarlberg (61.2), Tyrol (60.6), Carinthia (58.9) and Salzburg (58.6), Upper Austria brings up the rear with a vaccination rate of 57.3 percent.

4.4 percent of PCR tests are positive

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have already been 809,086 confirmed corona cases in Austria. 762,727 people are considered to have recovered. A total of 308,520 PCR and rapid antigen tests were registered in the past 24 hours. 96,120 of these were meaningful PCR tests, of which 4.4 percent were positive. That is significantly more than last week’s average – here, an average of 2.8 percent of the PCR tests were positive. (apa, red)
