The Tyrolean Choir Association, formerly known as the “Tyrolean Singers Association”, has been taking care of choral affairs in Tyrol for over 160 years. The association currently has around 500 choirs and ensembles with around 11,500 singers, as the regional chairwoman Ursula Oberwalder explained: “We are thus making an important contribution to maintaining tradition and the further development of choirs and ensembles in our country.”
State award for choirs and vocal ensembles
The state award serves to honor the outstanding achievements of Tyrolean choirs with the aim of making the continuous development work in the choirs visible and thereby motivating other choirs and ensembles to raise their performance level and to do excellent work in the association.
The state prize for choirs and vocal ensembles is awarded annually in two categories and is endowed with 2,500 euros per category. Due to the fact that the award did not take place last year, two winners were honored this time.
Four choirs and ensembles honored
The Mühlau Singers’ Association (2020) and the Wildschönau Gospel Choir (2021) won in the “Mixed Choirs and Ensembles” category. The prize in the category “women-men-youth children’s choirs and ensembles” went to the CHOROPAX Chamber Choir Wattens (2020) and the elementary school and extracurricular choir Spatzenhaufen (2021).

Big part of the Tyrolean culture
The choir is an integral part of community life in Tyrol and an important cultural vehicle, emphasized the regional councilor Johannes Tratter (ÖVP), who is responsible for tradition: “Numerous choirs all over the country inspire with their great commitment and the high level of their performance. With the state prize for choirs and vocal ensembles, we honor the achievements of the singers. “
