A presumably Swiss man was shot dead last week in the small Brazilian town of Goianesia, northwest of Brasilia. Police happened to be at the scene and arrested the alleged murderer, who tried to flee.

The act was committed last Friday in this rural region located 280 kilometers from the capital Brasilia, the military police of the federal state of Goias said on their Instagram account. The victim was transferred to a hospital, where she died.

Killed for 2000 francs

Asked by Keystone-ATS, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) simply said that it was aware of a case of homicide in Brazil. The embassy on site is in contact with the local authorities.

According to Brazilian online media G1, the victim is a 59-year-old Swiss, who lived in Goianesia. The alleged perpetrator is 27 years old. According to this media, the case revolves around a dispute for a debt of 2000 francs, following the sale of a car. The murderer allegedly took the victim out of his house, before shooting him three times in the head.

Police, who were conducting a check in the area, heard the gunshots. The man pointed his gun at the police when they arrived there, before trying to flee. Police fired and the man surrendered.
