Right on trend: The bloody Netflix series “Squid Game”, in which heavily indebted Koreans have to play children’s games, was watched by over 111 million people in the first month. Record!
Now figures from the finance portal “Bloomberg” show how much value the Korean series has for the streaming giant. Squid Game brought Netflix a whopping $ 900 million!
These numbers speak for themselves
The hit series only cost a measly 22 million dollars – peanuts for the branch croissus. Squid Game viewers hung a total of 1.4 billion hours in front of the screen – that meant number one in the Netflix charts in 94 countries.
That also made Netflix shares soar: from 590 to 670 dollars within just 30 days. The juicy price increase is due not least to the increase in subscriptions: an increase of 4.4 million paying viewers within a month.
“Can’t do that a second time”
A second season of the hit series has not yet been announced. The writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk recently stated that he could not imagine writing a second season.
“I had to drink half a bottle of soju (Korean liqueur) at a time to get the creative juices flowing. I can’t do that to myself a second time, ”said Dong-hyuk in an interview.
In view of the success, Netflix should insist on a second season. The successful author would like to hand over responsibility for it. “I would consider a team of writers and hire several experienced directors.” (gif)
