FP3 in Austin: Perez best time, Hamilton & Verstappen with track limit problems

Sergio Perez in the Red Bull set the fastest time in the last free practice session before qualifying (11 p.m.) for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in the USA.

The Mexican took 1: 34.701 minutes for the 5.5 kilometers on Saturday and was 0.104 seconds ahead of Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari. World Championship leader Max Verstappen from the Netherlands got his best lap canceled because he left the track illegally, but was still third fastest.

Lewis Hamilton’s best lap didn’t count either. The Mercedes driver from Great Britain finished the session in sixth place, 0.518 seconds behind Perez. Four drivers will be transferred to another penalty after qualifying. After George Russell (Williams) and Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin), Fernando Alonso (Alpine) also swapped his drive completely, the trio must be at the end of the grid. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) only has five penalties because he only changed the combustion engine.
