ÖVP affair: Karmasin no longer works for IHS

Ex-Family Minister Sophie Karmasin, accused in the advertisement and survey affair, will no longer work for the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) for the time being. “We have put the cooperation on hold until all allegations have been resolved,” IHS spokesman Paul Glück told “profil”.

Shortly after the end of her career as minister, Karmasin acted as co-founder of an IHS-owned competence center for behavioral economics, Insight Austria. The center was founded in 2018 by the then IHS boss and now ÖVP labor minister Martin Kocher. Until a few days ago, Karmasin appeared on the Insight Austria website as a consultant.

Karmasin is a co-accused in the corruption affair surrounding ex-Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) – the presumption of innocence applies. The chat revelations suggest that a group of confidants around Kurz may have been involved in Karmasin’s involvement with Insight Austria.
