Irvine (pte020 / 10/22/2021 / 12:30) – The face mask from the US gaming accessories specialist Razer http://razer.com is barely on sale, but it should be back soon. The “Zephyr” virus protection, also offered by the German branch in Hamburg, costs 109.99 euros in the basic version. This contains the mask itself, a carrying case, filters for nine days of use and a USB charging cable. The peepholes are coated so that they cannot fog up.
Marketed as an “air purifier”
According to Razer, it is not a medical device or personal protective equipment. The mask was also not specifically tested against COVID-19. Zephyr is therefore marketed as an “air purifier”. However, the company leaked that it is working and has been registered by the US regulatory authority FDA http://www.fda.gov. However, this does not mean that the stated effectiveness has been officially confirmed.
The mask is designed to hold back 99 percent of all particles larger than 0.3 microns. Viruses are much smaller, but should also be captured because they usually cling to larger particles, such as water droplets. The filters also hold back particles emitted by the user. The filters must be changed after 72 hours. Zephyr is equipped with light emitting diodes that illuminate the mouth area. Some consider this a mere gag, others say that the hearing impaired can read from the lips of the mask wearer. In a later version, a microphone and a loudspeaker will be built in so that the Zephyr user can be better understood.
Fan makes breathing easier
Those who feel like they’re not getting enough air can turn on fans near the filters to make breathing easier so that even joggers can carry the Zephyr. Users can choose between 4,200 and 6,200 revolutions per minute. Zephyr should be able to adapt to all head sizes. The mask is fastened with straps around the neck and back of the head. The seals that touch the face are made of silicone and can be removed for cleaning.
