Winterhilfe Schweiz / Secours suisse d’hiver / Swiss winter rescue
Since 1936, the Secours d’hiver has been helping people affected by poverty – often invisible – in Switzerland. During the last financial year 2020/2021, more than 50,000 people received services for a total amount of 7.5 million francs from the Winter Help. The purpose of the Secours d’Hiver support services is to alleviate the current situation of benefit recipients, to prevent them from getting into debt and to help them become independent. In addition, the Winter Help takes on an advisory and triage function. Its most important services are the handling of urgent bills, the distribution of goods in kind (beds, clothes, school supplies) and support for children. Apart from the project to encourage children’s extracurricular activities, services are generally provided on an ad hoc basis.
The coronavirus has exacerbated the situation of people affected by precariousness
The pandemic has had a negative impact on the situation of many people with already limited incomes. Many small businesses, such as taxi companies or beauty salons, have faced significant financial losses. Families and individuals who barely made ends meet before the pandemic can no longer support themselves. The Winter Help provides transitional aid until state aid is granted.
Call for donations and sale of stars
The Winter Help will send its appeal for donations in the coming days. The money will go exclusively to those in need in the region. Our star sellers are also on the way. The proceeds from sales of stars, made in Switzerland, are also intended for support services in the region.
