The Minister of the Interior warns of the threat of an endogenous attack, “with someone who takes a knife, enters anywhere and commits an attack in the name of a religion”.
“We live in an extremely troubled world.” Invited this Wednesday morning on RTL, the Minister of the Interior returned to the terrorist threat hanging over France, while the trial of the attacks of November 13, 2015 began a week ago.
“France is very threatened, all French people are. But today we are undoubtedly quite protected against attacks of the November 13th type, that is to say organized from abroad, even if anything can happen. . On the other hand, there are endogenous threats, with someone who takes a knife, enters anywhere and commits an attack in the name of a religion, “detailed Gerald Darmanin.
Anxious to underline the work provided by the authorities to fight against the terrorist threat, the minister recalled that 36 Islamist attacks have been foiled since 2017, “and a few this year”.
Reinforced security level
Gérald Darmanin also spoke of another movement threatening the safety of the French, that of survivalists.
“People who think that the end of the world is approaching and therefore, that it must be accelerated. We have already foiled the attacks of these people who were going to take action”, declared the minister who notes that the country is found in “a very special period”.
At the beginning of September, Gérald Darmanin asked those responsible for territorial security “for a high level of vigilance”, particularly around places classified as sensitive, during the trial of the attacks of November 13, 2015, which is to extend over nine months. It requires “total collective vigilance (…) both with regard to the endogenous and exogenous (terrorist) threat” while recalling that last year, the trial of the January 2015 attacks had been the occasion for ‘a “succession of attacks on national territory” (against the former premises of Charlie Hebdo, assassination of Samuel Paty mid-October).
