A simple video tape has become the symbol of the embarrassment of the American authorities on September 11th. And the source of a heavy dispute between the FBI and the families of the victims of the 2001 attacks on American soil.

Shot in San Diego at the beginning of February 2000, it shows two future terrorists of American Airlines flight 77, which struck the Pentagon (189 dead), invited to a party in their honor by a Saudi national, Omar al-Bayoumi. Discovered during a search shortly after the tragedy, it offered striking evidence of collusion between Nawaf al-Hazmi, Khalid al-Mihdhar and al-Bayoumi, suspected of being an agent of the Saudi regime. In front of the investigators of the parliamentary commission on September 11, the latter claimed to have crossed “by chance” the two young men in a restaurant in Los Angeles, then helping them find accommodation and open a bank account.
