The quarter-finals for the remaining two Austrians at the ATP Challenger tournament in Tulln was the final destination on Thursday.
From eight to zero in three tournament days: This is the sobering result of the Austrians at the new Challenger tournament in Tulln on the Danube. Eight domestic aces made it into the main competition on Monday, three made it to the round of 16 and two to the quarter-finals. That was the end of the line for the two remaining players on Thursday.
Misolic and Novak out
The local surprise of the tournament, the 20-year-old Filip Misolic from Graz, fought a three-set fight with the experienced Frenchman Hugo Gaston, but had to admit defeat 0: 6, 6: 2 and 3: 6. Even for Dennis Novak, who was seeded as number 7, it went bankrupt. The Lower Austrian lost against the Czech Jiri Vesely with 3: 6 and 3: 6 in two sets.
After all Austrians were eliminated in doubles on Wednesday, the rest of the tournament will now take place without local heroes. From a patriotic point of view, a downer for the otherwise successful tournament. Until the finale on Sunday, the weather forecast says sunshine and therefore perfect conditions.
