Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet presented his future team on Friday. Friedrich Merz is one of the eight heads, but the question of the other team members causes the CDU politician to stumble.
An evasive maneuver by Friedrich Merz in the ARD program “Report from Berlin” causes discussions. The CDU politician should list names from the future team around the Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet, to which he belongs himself – but he avoided this request.
In addition to Friedrich Merz, the team includes the terrorism expert Peter Neumann, the digitization officer Dorothee Bär and Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Education Karin Prien, according to the interviewer. But when asked whether Merz still had the other four names in his head, he replied that he had the names “of course ready”. But he didn’t want to name her. When asked again, Merz just smiled and said: “We’re not doing school here.”
The interviewer waited, but Merz owed the other names – Joe Chialo, Andreas Jung, Silvia Breher and Barbara Klepsch. All he said was: “I know who is on the team and you know it too, so all is well.”
Template for satirists
There was heavy criticism on Twitter for the lack of a response. Among other things, the satirical magazine “extra3” took up the evasive maneuver.
Armin Laschet, whose approval ratings fell over the summer, presented the “future team” on Friday. The members should help Laschet to get the Union out of the polls until the federal election on September 26th.
