The regional director of public health, Dr Sylvain Leduc, specifies that community transmission and transmission within schools have been observed in Amqui.

When there are two transmissions feeding on each other, steps must be taken to stop the contamination., says Dr. Leduc.

Community transmission is explained, among other things, by the lower vaccination coverage in the MRC, among all the MRCRegional county municipality of Bas-Saint-Laurent, with 78.2%, according to the regional director.

So the CISSSIntegrated health and social services center opened a massive screening clinic on Friday, in Amqui, to test mainly students and those around them. 700 time slots for appointments have been opened. Friday morning, more than 400 appointments had already been assigned.

In addition, a case listed in the MRCRegional county municipality of Rimouski-Neigette was removed from the CISSSIntegrated health and social services center.

These 17 new cases bring the toll of people infected to 4,225 in the region since the start of the pandemic. In total, there are 66 active cases in the Lower Laurentian territory. The number of hospitalizations remains stable at three.
