A flu vaccination day on November 5

People wishing to be vaccinated against seasonal flu can do so without an appointment in many doctor’s offices and pharmacies for a fee of 30 francs.

The Covid-19 pandemic should not obscure the seasonal flu. The authorities recommend that people at risk and their relatives get vaccinated. They will be able to do this without an appointment in many doctor’s offices and pharmacies on November 5.

Those interested will be able to be vaccinated that day spontaneously at the recommended fixed price of 30 francs, all inclusive, written Thursday in a press release the Federal Office of Public Health (OFSP), co-organizer of the event. It will of course still be possible to get vaccinated after November 5. The vaccination period runs from mid-October until the start of the flu wave, in January in “normal” years, specifies the FOPH.

The flu is not a trivial illness. In many cases, it causes complications requiring hospitalization and sometimes leads to death, recalls the office. The vaccine is therefore recommended for people from the age of 6 months who suffer from a chronic disease, such as a respiratory or heart disease, pregnant women, children born prematurely and people 65 years of age and over. Their relatives, in particular those living under the same roof, as well as medical personnel are also targeted.

Two vaccines at the same time

The FOPH considers it important to stress that there is no contraindication to having the flu vaccine administered at the same time – or in a close interval – as that against Covid-19. And vaccinated or not, whether against the flu or the coronavirus, anyone with flu-like symptoms is invited to take the usual precautions and get tested for the coronavirus as soon as possible.

In addition to the FOPH, this national day of action, which is being held for the 17th time, is organized by the College of Primary Care Medicine, the Federation of Swiss Doctors and the Swiss Society of Pharmacists.
