GENVA, Sept. 14 (Reuters) – Less than 3.5% of Africans are vaccinated against COVID-19, a rate well below the official target of 60%, said on Tuesday John Nkengasong, director of the African Center for Control and of disease prevention (Africa CDC).

The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said at the same conference that the continent was “abandoned by the rest of the world” and that this would allow the coronavirus to continue circulating.
