While COVID-19 infections are roughly equivalent to yesterday’s data, the province is seeing an increase in deaths. The province has 633 new cases in the last 24 hours, against 639 yesterday.
At the same time, Quebec recorded seven new deaths. One of the heaviest tolls in recent weeks which pushes up the total of deaths due to the COVID-19 pandemic to 11,312 dead.
Hospitalizations are slightly increasing in Quebec hospitals, with three additional patients (18 admissions, 15 discharges) due to COVID-19. The total number of hospitalizations has so far reached 230 patients. Intensive care has recorded three new admissions, for a total of 78 people.
Among the new hospitalizations of the day, 15 people are people not vaccinated or having a first dose for less than 14 days, and three other people are considered to be fully vaccinated. The unvaccinated also represent the majority of new cases with 446 people. The remainder of the new cases is divided between 32 primary vaccines and 155 double vaccinated people.
According to INSPQ data, an unvaccinated person has an 8.8 times higher risk of infection compared to a fully vaccinated person. The risk of hospitalization continues to increase with a rate 34.3 times higher.
As of September 12, 59.78% of Quebec hospitals had no cases of COVID-19.
Almost 400,000 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic
The total number of people infected with COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic is 399,058. Of these, 381,505 have since been considered recovered.
Active COVID-19 outbreaks are on the rise as of September 13, with 439 outbreaks compared to 414 the day before. The effective reproduction rate (Rt) remains at 1.14, indicating circulation of the virus in the population. The moving average for new cases stands at 744 over the past seven days.
The Delta variant represents 66.8% of cases for the week of August 22 to 28.
The samples as of September 12 amounted to 21,079 tests carried out.
82% of those aged 12 and over fully immunized
The vaccination campaign is continuing in Quebec, with the objective of reaching 85% of the second dose for the population aged 12 and over.
An additional 15,213 doses of vaccine are added to the province’s total, including 14,116 in the last 24 hours and 1,097 before September 13. Quebec has reached 12,650,493 doses distributed in Quebec.
Including the doses administered outside Quebec (151,044), Quebecers received 12,801,537 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
