Belgium now has 25,014 deaths from the coronavirus, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated on Saturday morning.
Between May 26 and June 1, 12.9 people died per day on average from Covid-19, down 26.2% from the previous week.
Over the same period, 1,723 new Sars-CoV-2 contaminations were detected on average per day (-12%). Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium, 1,068,406 infections have been diagnosed.
Nearly 47,500 tests on average were also performed daily, for a positivity rate of 4.4%.
Between May 29 and June 4, there were an average of 77 hospital admissions per day due to coronavirus, an 18% decrease from the previous reporting period. In total, 1,007 people are still hospitalized due to Covid-19, including 341 patients treated in intensive care.
The virus’s reproduction rate is 0.87. When it is less than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to slow down. The incidence, which indicates the average number of new daily cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 224.9 over 14 days.
