Coronavirus cases and hospital admissions continue to rise

1,846 new coronavirus infections were reported to the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) within 24 hours. At the same time, the BAG registered four new deaths and 45 hospital admissions. This means that the number of confirmed cases has increased by almost 30 percent in a weekly comparison, and hospital admissions even increased by around a third.

Exception for vaccinations introduced

63.16 percent of the Swiss population are now fully vaccinated. So that as many different vaccines as possible against the coronavirus can continue to be offered, the Federal Council decided on Wednesday to introduce an exception to the Therapeutic Products Act that makes this possible.

According to the Therapeutic Products Act, the limited approval of a drug is only permitted in Switzerland if no other equivalent drug is available. In the pandemic, however, it is important to be able to provide vaccines to as many different providers as possible with different technologies, the Federal Council announced. He has therefore supplemented the corresponding Covid-19 regulation with an exception from the Therapeutic Products Act.

Parts of the Covid Act extended

At the same time, most of the provisions of the Covid-19 Act will expire at the end of the year. But parts of it to fight the pandemic should be continued in 2022 in view of the many uncertainties. To this end, the Federal Council passed the dispatch on the changes to the law on Wednesday.

The provisions are to be extended in order to combat the pandemic and its consequences in the areas of health, worker protection, sport and culture. On the other hand, the legal basis for hardship aid and unemployment insurance should not be extended. Here, the federal government and the cantons want to return to the due process.

The article on the Covid certificate is in force until the end of 2022. According to the Federal Council, this deadline is to be retained.

Booster vaccination extended certificate

The uncertainties regarding the validity of the certificate after a booster vaccination were also clarified on Wednesday: This is to be extended by a year after a third dose, as the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) informed the Keystone-SDA news agency on request.

The certificate is valid for twelve months after the last vaccination, said a BAG spokesman. This will also apply to the booster vaccination. On Tuesday there were initially contradicting information about the effect of a booster vaccination on the validity of the Covid certificate.

Thurgau closes test centers

In the past 24 hours, 27,981 new corona tests were reported to the BAG. Since mid-October, the 7-day average has stabilized at around 23,000 tests per day. At the end of September, this was still around 36,000 tests per day.

Test centers have been springing up in the canton of Thurgau since the introduction of mandatory certification. During controls, the canton discovered some hair-raising things, said Health Director Urs Martin in the Grand Council. Several test centers were therefore closed.
